4th down coaching decisions could prove key in Super Bowl

The analytically inclined Eagles have long been one of the NFL’s most aggressive organizations when it comes to the crucial fourth-down calls.

The analytics company has one of the best models for determining when NFL teams should go and when they should kick on fourth downs, using its win probability model that relies on historical play-by-play data adjusted for variables such as the strength and weaknesses of both teams, injuries and other factors.

That proved crucial in the final game when Pederson’s famous “Philly Special” call at the end of the first half led to a trick play TD pass from Trey Burton to quarterback Nick Foles and a fourth-and-1 conversion in Eagles territory helped spark the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter.

While the Chiefs did convert a key fourth-and-1 late in the first half last Sunday against the Bengals when Patrick Mahomes threw a 14-yard TD pass to Travis Kelce, that’s been more of the exception than the rule as Kansas City’s 12 fourth-down tries were tied for the second fewest in the NFL in the regular season.

Čini mi se da je ova pauza dosta bolje došla KC.
Imali su tešku utakmicu za AFC.
I celu sezonu vuku povrede, iako je Hardman stavljen na IR.
Taman da se lepo oporave.

Za KC je ovaj bye bio neophodan...

Uzeo sam ovih dana da gledam America's Game od 2000 naovamo.

Interesantni su ciklusi i koliko su neke price slicne. I onda dolazimo do pitanja cija ce se zavrsiti srecno ove sezone. Iskreno mislim da uzimaju Cifsi jer se desavaju neke slicne stvari kao tokom godina dominacije Patriota.

Dugo se nisam radovao jednom mecu kao ovom...

Jebo majku, bas se oduzilo. Tekma pocela 15 minuta kasnije, a poluvreme trajalo 50 minuta.

Malocas video zavrsnicu, posto sam se srusio na pola sata i video samo da je KC slavio. Malocas sam pogledao ostatak.

Jedino bitno sto sam propustio je kako su Iglsi brzo anulirali -8, zavrsnica meh zbog clock-managementa kada su na par yardi od TD.

Prvo poluvreme osetno bolje od drugog, mnogo toga se izdesavalo. Hurts junak, tragicar, pa opet junak.

Fantastican Sb, uzivanje je bilo gledati.

Svaka cast Bradberry i Siriani sto su odmah rekli da je bio flag, kako bi se prekinule te price...

mogao je postati ovaj superbol epski da sudija nije sjebao odlukom. opet se sudi nesto u zavrsnicama sto se ne sudi u finalima.

If the call hadn’t been made — and no one would have even noticed if it hadn’t: You didn’t see the Chiefs receiver, or any of the Chiefs, protesting before the (late) flag was thrown — we would have never thought about it. The Chiefs would have kicked a field goal, and the Eagles would have driven down the field in the closing moments to try to tie or win it, and this face melter of a Super Bowl might have included an ending for the ages.

That is not what happened.

The Chiefs then ran down the clock, which included purposely not trying to score a touchdown in the final seconds of a Super Bowl, which feels against the natural order of the universe — and kicked an easy, dull field goal, and then this game was just … over. There was no drama. There was no conclusion. There was just a slow, sad letting of air out of a balloon, a flaccid gasp of an ending. And everyone, including LeBron James, was unsatisfied.

Dugo nesto gluplje od ovog nisam procitao...

A flag potpuno cist. Bredberi je trebao da dobije bar jos nekoliko tokom meca.

Mislim covek sam prizna da je tako, sta vise treba da se desi od toga da bi se zaustavile ovakve price...al dobro, mora se o necemu pisati...

Brate ovo se ne sudi u finalu, na minut do kraja pri rezultatu 35-35. Kao da za guranje sviras penal u fudbalu. Jednostavno ne zasluzuje da to odredi krajni ishod utakmice. Mozda holding jeste bio ali je slobodna sudijska procjena da se ovo pusti.

Ja sam neutralan, cak mi je pred utakmicu bilo nekako realnije da Cifsi dobiju. Ali su se popisali na ishod bas.
