Here are 10 Week 1 matchups that you will definitely get pumped for this summer.
10. Cincinnati vs UCLA
Luke Fickell and the Bearcats stunned UCLA at the Rose Bowl last year. Cincinnati plays the role of underdog again because Kelly’s Bruins will receive plenty of hype in the offseason.
9. Florida State vs. Boise State (Jacksonville)
No one intimidates Boise State, especially when that team is trying to figure things out. Willie Taggert and the Seminoles are hoping 2019 provides more positive moments, but an upset wouldn’t help that.
8. Memphis vs Ole Miss
Memphis might catch Ole Miss at the right time. Ole Miss will try to replace multiple stars on offense, and the game is in Memphis. Last time it was played there, the Tigers won 37-24.
7. Northwestern at Stanford
Nerd fight! Only these nerds can play some football. File this one under the category of “underrated games to watch” for the 2019 season.
6. Arizona at Hawai’i
Technically this is Week Zero, but we’re counting it. Khalil Tate decided to return to Arizona for his final season of college football. If the Wildcats coaching staff can utilize his legs more (1,411 yards in 2017 to 224 in 2018), they should have a better team. Hawai’i possesses a dangerous quarterback as well. Cole McDonald took college football by storm at the beginning of the season, and could start hot again.
5. Utah at BYU
Rivalry game right away? We’ll take it. Not only is this game fiercely competitive, but both teams get to wear their home uniforms. Red and blue clash, and it’s a beautiful sight. Put this one in the underrated category as well.
4. Alabama vs. Duke (Atlanta)
No one anticipated this to be a good game, just like the Alabama-Louisville game in Week 1 this year. Duke will play without their star quarterback, Daniel Jones, who decided to turn pro. At least Alabama will be fun to watch.
3. Houston at Oklahoma
If you like offense, this game is right up your alley. If you like defense, stay far away from this one. Houston upset the Sooners in 2016 to begin the season, but they must try to repeat that feat in Norman, Oklahoma.
2. Miami vs. Florida (Orlando)
Crank the intensity up for this one. Miami just hired Manny Diaz, the creator of the Turnover Chain, after Mark Richt retired. Florida won’t feel bad for them, as they’re trying to overthrow Georgia as top dog in the SEC East. Expect this one to get chippy.
1. Oregon vs. Auburn (Arlington)
Oregon received an enormous boost when quarterback Justin Herbert chose to return for his senior year. That decision alone put the Ducks in contention for a College Football Playoff berth. A win over an SEC team would be a great start. Auburn’s trying to keep their head coach around another year. Gus Malzahn enters 2019 on a warm seat, and a loss here wouldn’t help his case. Last time these two teams met, Auburn won a national championship.
